High School Vocal Opportunities
(Grades 9-12)
Some of the following events require DMTA Student Affiliate Membership, which is $20.
MTNA Vocal Performance Competition
This is a national competition. Students must first win their state, then advance to their Division (5 states). If they win their Division, they advance to Nationals.
Eligibility for Senior Category: Age 15-18 as of January 1, 2022
Entry Fee: $110
Accompaniment Fee: $100
Deadline for Entry: Wednesday, September 4, 2022
No monetary awards unless student places in Nationals.

Repertoire:
2 non-English art songs in original languages
1 English art song (original language)
1 Art song of student/teacher’s choice

DSF is a ranked competition. It is divided into 3 categories:
Intermediate: Grades 7-8
Junior: Grades 9-10
Senior: Grades 11-12
Prizes:
1st, 2nd and 3rd places receive a trophy.
4th, 5th, 6th places and HM receive a ribbon.
Senior Division Winner also receives $750 after performing at the Gala.

Solo/Ensemble
You must register for this through your school’s choral director.
Dates vary from school to school. Usually Jan/Feb.
Fees vary, but generally $12-$15 plus $25-$40 accompaniment fee.
Sing one solo from the Texas PML for adjudication.

Dallas Music Teachers Association sponsors a contest to represent Dallas at the Texas Music Teachers State Convention. The students at the Convention sing against winners of other cities across the state for the state title in their age division.
There are two divisions: Grades 9-10 and Grades 11-12.
Students perform 3-4 pieces (10 minute time limit) of contrasting styles, periods and languages. Each student must pass the prescribed Theory Test to be eligible to compete.
Theory Test date: Sunday, February 12, 2023

As Convention gets closer, TMTA will provide hotels who will offer discounts to families attending.
NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Auditions
Deadline for emailing me: Not scheduled yet, so this information will be updated as it becomes available
High School Division: Usually the 3rd Saturday in March
Location will be somewhere in the DFW area, but that informatin has not yet been released.
Students will perform 3 pieces from memory for adjudication from 3 judges. Students selected for Semi-Finals will perform one piece again. Students selected for Finals will perform one piece again and winners are selected from each age/gender division. This event lasts all day.
